The making of the MK18 Hellcat tank knife .
The Customer who commissioned the knife sent me this picture of his Mk 18 Hellcat tank destroyer that he had restored which really helped as a visual reference to designing the knife shape .
After making a wooden blank version I then got the go ahead for the full build in 01 tool steel .
After shaping and drilling the holes , the blade was ground and heat treated then the removable scales shaped and sculpted before the blade was prepared for the OD green Cerakote , the headlight trits were then added .
The sheath was dyed wet formed veg tan leather which then has a removable camo pattern over cover made from Pittard’s goatskin leather and carries via a large blade -Tec tek- lok belt clip .
The knife / sheath were shipped in a padded zipped knife case that fits inside a custom made zip bag made from genuine D-Day US issue OD green canvas , stamped Thompson’s 1944.
